KOREAN AMERICAN OFFICERS ASSOCIATION


The Korean American Officers Association (K.A.O.A. ), Inc. was founded in 1997 by a group of Police Officers and Detectives within the New York City Police Department, who are of Korean decent. The By-Law was established in 2001 authorizing an establishment of its Executive Officers and Board of Directors.

Thereafter, it was incorporated as Not-for-Profit organization in the State of New York.

The K.A.O.A. is now an officially recognized fraternal organization of the New York City Police Department.

Honorable Police Commissioner Raymond W. Kelly granted the approval on February 14, 2003.

Currently, the membership extends to various law enforcement agencies, i.e., DA'S Office, FBI, Corrections, and other state/local police departments.

The organization hosts Annual Scholarship Dinner Dance, family picnic, educational seminars for community members and participate in annual Korean Day Parade in Manhattan.

There are many other events and functions throughout the year


MISSION

1) promote opportunities and help Korean Americans and other individuals,       families, and friends achieve their full potential in the Criminal Justice Field;

2) understand and appreciate contributions made by individuals toward       development of our community;

3) enhance the knowledge and understanding of our cultural heritage that unites       us all;

4) engender exemplary deportment on the part of its members, thereby creating       respect and good will for law enforcement agencies within the U.S. ,

5) maintain the communication lines with our communities to educate its members       concerning crime and youth related issues.
